What is this report generator?

Kish created a system to automate the report-generation process for physical therapists.

Basically, Kish connected a Google form to a templated google doc to allow a Physical Therapist to be able to write their reports simply by filling out a form.

What was Kish's role?

This was a pure "volunteer" project, where Kish observed his mother, a physical therapist, struggling to write her reports and decided to use his knowledge of no-code to automate this process for her.

Meet Paula, a Physical Therapist

Kish's mother is the inspiration for this project, for the sake of storytelling, let's call her Paula.

Paula is originally from India, and has been practicing physical therapy for roughly 25 years in the US. Paula is an extremely skilled and devoted physical therapist, and currently treats K-12 students with special needs.

Paula hates writing reports

At this stage in her career, the treatment and actual therapy she provides to her patients is the easy part of her job. What is difficult for her is the endless report-writing. This difficulty is due to both the

  • quantity of reports she must write
  • english being her second language.

For context on the quantity, Paula treats over 50+ students per year, and for each student she must write initial and triannual (once every three years) assessment reports, in addition to progress reports upon request. That is a ton of reports every year!

Her old process

Paula's struggle involved a process of

  1. creating a new document for each report
  2. recreating the format from her previous reports
  3. filling in all of the information manually
  4. fixing the formatting
  5. asking her children to spell check and fix the document before she submits it

It was a hassle that took much more time and energy than was necessary. It was this painstaking report writing process that Kish identified and aimed to ameliorate and automate with this project.

The "design" for this project is a tad unexciting. Essentially there is a google form broken up into sections, that match up to a formatted google document.

The form

Designed to be simple and straightforward, the form parallels the report, and is split up into sections to make it more digestible. Each section has a screenshot preview of what that part will look like in the template for reference.

The template

The report template was similarly meant to be simple and straightforward, enabling a large amount of information to be conveyed in a digestible manner.
